Brand identity, signage, way-finding and collateral for Sawmill Market, Albuquerque's premier urban market set in a former lumber warehouse.

SAWMILL MARKET

Transformed from a lumber warehouse in Albuquerque’s up-and-coming Sawmill District, Sawmill Market’s a food hall and experimental culinary and cocktail laboratory — the first of its kind in the Southwest.
Using the mid-century lumber warehouse as an architectural foundation, Islyn Studio eschewed the conventional notions of New Mexican design to opt instead for a deeper, more story-driven approach that roots the guest in place and allows their experience to animate the design. Nods to the site’s past — patina’ed metals, peg boards, the original dust collectors, steel eye beams, historic rail tracks and burnished wood — mingle alongside softer, more sensory touches including natural plays of shadow and light and imperfect painterly strokes of color.

Our identity is inspired by the proud maker heritage of the site and the surrounds. Wood type letterpress printing and stencilled elements remind us of the hand of the maker while the color palette reflects raw materiality and earthy ochres. Industrial scale super graphic signage and wayfinding speaks to the original use of the building.
